About the shelter
Founded in 1993, Jack Russell Rescue is a volunteer-run, non-profit, and community-based organisation established by Sandra Ferris and Jill Clinch.
Their goal is to save, care for, and eventually rehome as many abandoned Jack Russell Terriers as they can, including crossbreeds. The Jack Russell Terriers rescued by the organisation come from pounds throughout Australia, whenever Jack Russell Terriers find themselves on death row.
In addition to death row dogs, Jack Russell Rescue also takes in unwanted JRTs who are privately surrendered by owners who can no longer provide them with love and care due to a variety of circumstances such as death, relocation, and marriage dissolution. An average of about 35 to 40 dogs are under Jack Russell Rescue’s care, and the organisation is able to successfully rehome around 200 dogs each year. While not all dogs offered up for adoption are purebred JRTs, Jack Russell Rescue believes that each and every one of them is worth saving.
The JRTs under the care of the organisation undergo vaccination, desexing, heartworm testing, microchipping, deworming, and temperament assessment with vets and professionals before they are considered for rehoming. The Sydney-based institution also provides follow-up assistance and guidance for families that adopt from them as a way to guarantee that the transition from foster care to forever home is as smooth as possible.

Support comes in several forms, including fostering, adopting, sponsoring a rescue dog, volunteering, and holding fundraisers. All donations to Jack Russell Rescue go toward the rescued dogs’ care and welfare. With an all-important Charitable Fund tax status, donations that are $2 and more are fully tax deductible.
