About the shelter
Founded and established by Giorgie Blair in 2011, Farmdogz Rescue Inc. is now a not-for-profit organisation that rescues, rehabilitates, fosters, and rehomes farm dogs from council pounds, shelters, and farms across Australia. Based in Melbourne, Victoria, the rescue is able to transport all fostered dogs across the different states.
Run entirely by dedicated volunteers all over Australia, Farmdogz Rescue Inc. has a network of committed foster carers made up of “everyday people from all walks of life” who have their love of dogs and their desire to rescue as two things they all have in common. To become a foster carer with Farmdogz Rescue Inc., they ask that potential foster carers send them an enquiry by filling out their online application form. Once the organisation has received the form, they will then make an informed decision about the potential foster carer’s suitability and match a new foster dog to the family. The potential foster dog will then be brought to the foster carer’s premises to ensure that both the family and the dog are comfortable with one another. Whilst Farmdogz Rescue Inc. pays for all the veterinary bills of dogs in foster care, they ask the foster carers to provide food for their charges.
Potential adopters are requested to read the information carefully on their site regarding the adoption process. Their website is linked to Farmdogz Rescue Inc.’s listing on PetRescue which includes a profile of all available adoptable animals. When the potential adopter has seen a dog that they fancy, he can fill out the online adoption form, making sure to include any questions he may have regarding the dog or the process. Should the application be successful, then one of the rescue’s volunteers will be in touch to organise a “meet and greet” at the potential adopter’s home and conduct a yard check at the same time. If everything checks out, a two-week trial with the dog can commence with the adoption fee paid at the beginning of the trial.
