About the shelter
Geraldton Dog Rescue Inc. is a non-profit organization run by volunteers who focus entirely on rescuing abandoned and found dogs from the local Geraldton local pound.
They take these abandoned dogs into their care, rehabilitate and socialise them, find temporary foster carers, and finally—permanent forever homes. The rescue shelter has won several awards such as the Best of Geraldton 2015/2016 and 2016/2017 – Not for Profit, the Midwest Business Excellence Awards 2016 – Community Spirit Award, the Prime Super Community Group of the Year Award 2016 – Semi-Finalists, the Active Citizenship Award for a community group or event – 2011, and the Community Excellence Award for Not for Profit Organization – 2012.
They rescue and rehome all sizes (small to large), all types (whether short hair or long), all breeds (mixed or pedigreed), all ages (pups or older dogs), and male or female dogs. They advocate pet adoption from shelters over buying puppies from unethical breeders. or pet shops. Apart from rescuing, rehabilitating, and rehoming these abandoned dogs, they also spread awareness about pet care through their website, events, and social media. Geraldton Dog Rescue also supports the Oscar Law movement, aimed to help fight the euthenasia rates in Australia’s kill pounds.
Mission
- Geraldton Dog Rescue is committed to rescuing dogs about to be euthanised from the city pound.
