Firefly Animal Rescue

About the shelter

Firefly Animal Rescue welcomes abandoned dogs, cats, rabbits, guinea pigs, and ferrets. Lead by Fernanda Murialdo, Teaghan Sudiarta, and Alicia Hurrell, this Sydney-based animal rescue centre operates within the Campbelltown Animal Care Facility. It also accepts private surrenders from owners who can no longer take care of their pets. The shelter runs with the help of hardworking volunteers and loving foster carers to rescue, rehabilitate, and rehome all animals.

Once the animals are rescued, they are examined and given appropriate vet care. They are desexed, microchipped, vaccinated, and treated for worms, fleas, and mites. They are then handed over to foster carers who give their wards plenty of love, care and attention.

Firefly Animal Rescue regularly updates its website to share all adoptable animals. People interested in adopting animals from them can review pet profiles and answer an adoption questionnaire. Firefly Animal Rescue checks each potential pet parent’s lifestyle, habits, and housing, before matching them with the right animals.

The not-for-profit charity also works to educate the public and create a more compassionate community towards animals. Responsible pet ownership and proper animal nutrition are just some of the topics they tackle.

Mission

  • Firefly Animal Rescue’s mission is to provide animals based in Sydney, New South Wales a second lease at life through their rescue, rehabilitation, and rehoming efforts.
  • Educating the community about responsible pet ownership is also an important thrust of the rescue.

How you can help

Volunteering, donating, fostering, and adopting are four ways you can help Firefly Animal Rescue.

As a volunteer, you can generate unique ideas and help organise fundraising events. You can also do your part to help spread the word by sharing an animal’s profile on social media, or simply following the shelter’s official Facebook account. You can also help do home checks for prospective foster carers.

Donations in cash and in kind will help keep the centre running. No matter how big or small, any amount you donate will go towards vet care or specialised treatments. Pet food, toys, beddings, and flea treatments are also welcome!

Fostering and adopting are more permanent commitments, but those with open hearts are welcome to get in touch with Firefly Animal Rescue team.
