About the shelter

Beagle Rescue Victoria (BRV) Inc. is a registered non-profit charity based in Melbourne. The organisation aims to rescue, rehabilitate, and rehome unwanted beagles within Victoria, Australia.

The BRV volunteers are all experienced owners who know the joys and heartbreaks of having a beagle. Though they have full-time jobs, they devote all their free time to rescuing and taking care of abandoned beagles.

BRV’s rescue beagles come from various circumstances. Some were saved from local shelters and pounds, while others were rescued from abusive situations including puppy farms. A few were privately surrendered for rehoming by owners who could not keep them anymore.

Owning a beagle is not all fun and games. This breed needs proper care, and if you are not willing to play the part of a good beagle owner, you might want to reconsider your options. Before BRV places a beagle into their forever home, the pet has already been desexed, microchipped, vaccinated, tested for temperament, and treated for worms and fleas.

Mission

• BRV saves beagles from abuse, neglect, and abandonment, whether they were found in pounds or voluntarily surrendered by owners no longer able to care for them.
• They aim to provide each beagle in their care with a high standard of medical care, rehabilitation and training to address any physical, social, or psychological need.
• BRV hopes to improve awareness about beagles in Melbourne, educating people on topics such as the importance and benefits of desexing, responsible ownership, dog training, basic nutrition, overall health care, and the need for socialization.
