About the shelter
Animal Welfare League NSW has been in operation for more than 60 years as a registered charity dedicated to caring for neglected, abandoned, and surrendered animals.
It holds the authority to investigate animal cruelty allegations based on the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act. Currently operating out of two shelters and one veterinary clinic, the charity has 16 branches of dedicated volunteers all across New South Wales, Australia.
Animals that are up for adoption through Animal Welfare League NSW all go through vet checking, temperament assessing, desexing, microchipping, deworming, vaccination, and flea treatment before being matched with a potential new carer. The organisation also aims to match adoptable animals with new owners who exhibit the kind of lifestyle that ensures the animals’ happiness. This is done through careful interviews and lifestyle assessment of potential owners seeking specific cats or dogs to be taken in as pets.
Mission
- Animal Welfare League NSW’s vision is for all companion animals to be in safe and loving homes.
- To see this vision through, the charity implements the highest standard of care for animals in need of sheltering. This is made possible through the rehoming of animals, disseminating information about the organisation, and providing discounts for desexing programs.
How you can help
Animal Welfare League NSW is also guided by the getting to zero philosophy—a commitment to fulfilling zero euthanasia of all cats and dogs that are deemed healthy and treatable—as a way of directly saving and showing compassion to animals. It is a member of Animal Welfare Australia and relies on funding from volunteers and committed animal lovers in order to stay operational. The organisation enjoins people to get involved through a number of ways—donations, fundraising events, or volunteer work at the shelters, apart from adopting an animal from any of the 16 branches.
From sponsoring as a company to purchasing an animal guardian gift, there are many ways to support Animal Welfare League NSW!
