About the shelter
Founded in 1938 as the Victorian Animal Aid Trust, Animal Aid is an open-door shelter that welcomes and never refuses animals in need, be it a dog, cat, rabbit, or guinea pig. Existing to unite people and pets for life, it is currently based in Coldstream, Victoria and has been in operation there for over 15 years.
Animal Aid is a non-profit animal welfare organisation dedicated to the care and rehoming of lost or unwanted animals. Made up of loyal volunteers and paid professional staff, the group believes that all creatures deserve to be in safe, comfortable, and loving homes.
The facility provides opportunities to animals that are surrendered to them by helping search for the owners (if they are lost pets) or finding new families that will love them forever. Committed to serving these creatures to the best of their abilities, Animal Aid has an in-house veterinary clinic and boards around 5,000 pets in need each year.
Mission
- Animal Aid prioritises the best interests of the animals entrusted to their care. They are dedicated to improving the welfare of companion pets in society, addressing issues of animal homelessness, and helping eradicate inappropriate animal breeding practices.
- Animal Aid works together with staff and volunteers to provide rescue animals with the utmost care, sticking to their mission of reuniting lost pets with their owners, and matching each animal to its forever family.
How you can help
There are many ways to get involved with Animal Aid. You can adopt a dog, cat, pocket pet, or even livestock (when available). You can also help out by donating money, volunteering your time, or sponsoring a pen.
