About the shelter

4Lyfe Rescue was founded on May 4, 2016. By 2018, they’ve already helped more than 50 dogs and cats find the perfect forever homes, and they continue to grow with the help of donations and business partners. 4Lyfe aims to promote proper pet ownership and decrease the number of abandoned and unwanted pets in Australia.

4Lyfe is run entirely by volunteers, most of whom also work full-time jobs in addition to their animal caretaking. Because of this, the rescue is always in need of new volunteers to help out. Fostering animals is the biggest option, but some folks may not have the right home or free time to commit to having foster animals. If that is the case, people can sign up to be a member and still contribute by walking dogs, providing transportation, and helping out at community events.

You can meet 4Lyfe volunteers and animals at a number of local events throughout the year! Deeply embedded in their local community, 4Lyfe attends events both to help find homes for their animals, and to impart knowledge on desexing and proper animal care. In 2018 alone, 4Lyfe has been involved with events such as the Canine Carnival, the Canberra Harvest Festival, and the 2018 Pooch Affair.

4Lyfe also runs a program to help pet owners rehome their animals in sad cases where they can no longer care for them. First, 4Lyfe shares resources for pet owners to determine if there is any way for them to keep their pet. If a foster carer is available, the animal can be surrendered to 4Lyfe Rescue. If not, 4Lyfe can provide social media posts about the animal, screen candidates, and help the pet owner properly transfer ownership to the new home. 4Lyfe understands that there are unavoidable circumstances in which people cannot keep their animals, so they work to make the transition as easy as possible for both owner and pet.

One cool way you can support 4Lyfe rescue is by visiting their online shop to buy bandanas, t-shirts, and hoodies with the 4Lyfe logo. However, you can also donate to specific animal needs such as vaccinations, collars, food, or training—so you always know exactly how your donation is being spent. 4Lyfe also partners with Goodwill Wines. When you buy a bottle from Goodwill, 50% of the profits go directly to 4Lyfe.

Mission
