Pet First Aid – American Red Cross

App • Instructional guide for pet-related emergencies.

This mobile app was created by the American Red Cross.

Pet First Aid is a mobile app that aims to assist dog and cat owners with pet-related emergencies. Providing veterinary advice in the palm of your hand, the app features step-by-step instructions and helpful videos to guide pet parents if and when they need to do first aid for their pet.

Who’s behind it?

The American Red Cross organisation.

How much will it cost me?

The Pet First Aid – American Red Cross app can be downloaded and used for free.

How does it help me right now?

Due to the COVID-19 lockdown, it may be harder to visit your veterinarian or find an open emergency vet clinic. Though this app is not a substitute for professional medical care, it will teach you how to be mentally and physically prepared to act when a pet emergency strikes at home.

How does it work?

The app can be used by both dog and cat owners through a quick toggle that divides the content. For every kind of animal, the app is broken down into sections: Learn, Prepare, Emergency, Quizzes, Pets, and Info. Through text, image, and video content provided in the app, you can learn first aid for over 25 common pet situations (such as allergic reactions, bleeding, breathing problems, burns, choking, collapse, and electric shock), identify common toxic substances, and refer to an early warning sign guide for preventive care.

The app allows you to create profiles for your pets, input your vet’s contact details, as well as locate the emergency vet hospitals and pet-friendly hotels nearest to you. You can also test your knowledge through interactive quizzes that let you earn badges, or take online courses hosted by American Red Cross.

Where can I get it?

Pet First Aid – American Red Cross app is available for download on the App Store and Google Play
