Yes, Barry M is cruelty free.
Originating from East London’s Ridley Road Market, Barry M has been selling nail polish since 1982. From six bold nail polish colours, Barry Mero and his team have expanded their collection over the years to include makeup. Foundations, eyeshadow palettes, and colour changing lip paints are just a few of the cosmetics they produce.
Barry M states that they are “an affordable, high quality, cruelty-free and vegan makeup range that’s loved around the world.” On their Cruelty Free page, they write:
“Here at Barry M, we don’t just love cosmetics. We love animals and the planet, too!
That’s why, since founding in 1982, Barry M has never tested its finished products or ingredients on animals or engaged another company to do so on our behalf. In fact, all companies in our supply chain must provide us with annual written assurance that no product or ingredient used in Barry M products has been newly animal tested by them after our fixed cut-off date. Our strict policy means that within our company and our supply chain, we do not tolerate cosmetics’ animal testing.
We also do not permit our products to be sold in retail stores in countries such as China, where they require animal testing. In addition, we’ve pledged to only use new ingredients that become available in the future, if their safety can be assessed entirely without animal testing.
With these ethical values at the heart of Barry M, we’re proud to be listed as cruelty-free in the Naturewatch Compassionate Shopping Guide. We’re also privileged to be working with some amazing animal protection charities.”
Aside from Naturewatch, Barry M is included in People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals’ (PETA) Global Beauty Without Bunnies Program as a cruelty free and vegan brand. PETA certifies that their products are vegan-friendly, which means that Barry M does not use animal-derived ingredients or by-products. As of 2021, Barry M also shares that all their products are 100% vegan.
