Can Dogs Eat Tempeh?

Tempeh is packed with plant-based protein, dietary fiber, and vitamins. Similar to tofu, it is made from soybeans that are cultured and fermented, then shaped into compact cakes. Though tempeh may sound like a good alternative to animal-derived meat, it may not be the best vegetable to give your dog because of the high risk of soy allergy. Nevertheless, if your dog isn’t allergic or intolerant to soy, he can enjoy a small piece of tempeh once in a while. Overfeeding him tempeh may result in loose stools.

What to do if your dog accidentally eats tempeh: Check the ingredients of your tempeh. If it contains salt, onion, garlic, or other harmful ingredients, get in touch with your veterinarian immediately. Observe your dog over the next few days for any unusual changes such as vomiting, diarrhea, lack of appetite, lethargy, incoordination, and excessive thirst or urination.

In summary: A small piece of tempeh made with safe ingredients will not harm your dog. In fact, this type of vegan-approved meat substitute can be given to him occasionally as long as your pooch isn’t allergic or intolerant to soy. However, tempeh mixed with poisonous seasonings or flavourings should never be given to your canine.
