The short answer: Yes.
The long answer: Dogs can eat bananas, but be sure to offer your fur-baby peeled bananas only. While the peels themselves aren’t toxic, they may cause blockages in your dog’s digestive system which isn’t ideal.
How to feed bananas to your dog: Peel the bananas, and make sure to offer in moderation. They may be full of nutrients (see links below to get a better idea about which nutrients exactly) and low in fats, but they’re also high in sugar.
Here are three ideas for banana treats your dog will love:
- Mashed bananas and peanut butter – cut the fats in half and add some potassium to your puppy’s snack time.
- Puree some frozen bananas (peeled) in hot weather for instant dog-friendly ice cream!
- Roasted banana chips – if your dog loves a good crunch. These are especially great to take along for park training treats.
In summary: bananas are a great source of nutrients but you need to add them to your dog’s diet in moderation, and carefully – without any peels. Aside from bananas, discover which other fruits dogs can safely eat in our “can dogs eat” category.
