Can Cats Eat Noodles?

Can Cats Eat Noodles?

It depends.

A staple food source, noodles come from unleavened dough that’s rolled, cut, and shaped into various forms. It is made using various ingredients available to each region, such as wheat, rice, egg, and quinoa

Cats are obligate carnivores. They do not need high amounts of carbohydrates to function. Since noodle is a type of carbohydrate, it is not essential food for your cat. However, occasionally offering her noodles is alright as long as it is plainly cooked in water. Pan-fried or deep-fried noodles, as well as those cooked with oil, salt, and seasonings should be avoided. Plus, packaged ramen noodles contain a considerable amount of preservatives that aren’t good for your cat.

What to do if your cat accidentally eats noodles: Check all the ingredients found in the noodle dish. If it contains potentially harmful ones such as garlic, onions, chives, and chili, contact your veterinarian immediately.

Keep a close eye on her and observe her for poisoning. Symptoms include salivation, twitching and fitting, vomiting, diarrhea, shock or collapse, difficulty in breathing, and skin inflammation or swelling. She may also display depression or coma, and changes in her appetite and excretion habits. The severity of her symptoms depends on how much she ate, how sensitive she is, and which ingredients are present.

Refrain from giving her raw noodles as these may be harder to digest. They may also cause gastrointestinal blockage.

In summary: Noodles do not contain essential nutrients needed by your cat. As such, give it to her sparingly and with caution. Always offer noodles cooked in water and without seasonings.
