The short answer: No, M·A·C Cosmetics is not entirely cruelty free.
The long answer: M·A·C Cosmetics is owned by the Estée Lauder Companies Inc. When you do a quick search of M·A·C Cosmetics on PETA’s Beauty Without Bunnies website, it states: “Warning! This company DOES test on animals.”
How is this so? On M·A·C’s official website, it adamantly states that it does not test on animals, nor does it own any animal testing facilities or ask others to test on animals for them. Despite its claims, it admits that some governments conduct animal testing to prove safety before the brand can sell products in their country. M·A·C Cosmetics explains, “China tests on animals as part of its safety assessment of cosmetic products. We love our fans and we never want to exclude them anywhere.”
The bottomline is because they physically sell their products in China, these products are subject to animal testing by a third party as required by Chinese law. As such, M·A·C Cosmetics cannot claim to be a cruelty free beauty brand.
