Is Clinique Cruelty Free?

Is Clinique Cruelty Free?

The short answer: No, Clinique is not entirely cruelty free.

The long answer: Similar to M·A·C Cosmetics, Clinique is a popular skincare and makeup brand under Estée Lauder Companies. As seen on its Customer Care page, the site declares that Clinique Laboratories, LLC. is “committed to the elimination of animal testing. We are equally committed to consumer health and safety, and bringing to market products that comply with applicable regulations in every country in which our products are sold.”

Furthermore, they say, “We do not conduct animal testing on our products or ingredients, nor ask others to test on our behalf, except when required by law.” This last phrase is misleading because even if they support the development and global acceptance of non-animal testing alternatives, countries such as China (where Clinique is being sold) can choose to have their finished products tested on animals. In this case, Clinique cannot claim to be 100% cruelty free unless they refrain from selling their skin care and makeup products in China.
