It is not advisable for cats to eat Doritos as these chips don’t provide nutritional value for them.
Doritos is a brand of flavoured tortilla chips by the American brand Frito-Lay. Its name comes from the Spanish word doradito, which means “little fried and golden thing.” Doritos have a long list of ingredients. These include whole corn, vegetable oil, salt, onion powder, and different types of cheese. Aside from these, artificial colourings and flavourings are also added.
In reality, some of the ingredients used to make Doritos are safe for cats to consume in small amounts. But because of the frying process and specific seasonings, it is not good for cats. Too much Doritos may contribute to stomach upset, indigestion, and, if fed frequently, weight gain.
What to do if your cat accidentally eats Doritos: Due to its strong smell, some cats may be tempted to approach the bag of Doritos you’ve just opened. A tiny lick may not harm her, but eating a considerable amount may cause accidental injury or choking due to its sharp edges. In addition, the salt, onion, garlic, and certain spices may poison your cat. Cool Ranch, which is packed with onion and garlic powder, as well as spicy flavours should never be offered to your pet.
If you suspect that your cat ate a large amount of Doritos in one sitting, observe her for poisoning. Salivation, vomiting, diarrhea, twitching and fitting, difficulty in breathing, and shock or collapse are common symptoms. Plus, she may also experience depression or coma, skin inflammation or swelling, and changes in her drinking, urinating, and eating habits.
In summary: Hide the Doritos from curious cats that may grow accustomed to eating these unhealthy chips. They do not contain the essential nutrients your kitty needs and may cause unwanted complications.
