Can Cats Eat Brussels Sprouts?

Yes, cats can eat Brussels sprouts in moderation.

Containing fiber, vitamin K, and vitamin C, brussels sprouts are leafy vegetables that resemble miniature cabbages. They are native to the Mediterranean region, and are a part of the Gemmifera cultivar group. Brussels sprouts contain plant-based protein that cats do not necessarily need as they are obligate carnivores. However, a small amount won’t do your pet any harm.

Cats can have Brussel sprouts as they are a safe and non-toxic superfood. However, these should be given to them in moderation. When fed correctly, the vegetable may aid in digestion, promote weight loss, minimise dehydration, speed up wound healing, and stabilise blood sugar levels.

How to feed Brussels sprouts to your cat: Be sure to serve your cat plainly cooked and unseasoned Brussels sprouts. You can boil, steam, stir fry, roast, or grill them.

Never give your cat the raw variety as it may cause food poisoning. Salivation, vomiting, diarrhea, twitching and fitting, difficulty in breathing, shock or collapse, skin inflammation or swelling, depression or coma, and changes in drinking, urinating, and appetite are common poisoning symptoms.

In summary: Brussel sprouts may be a good addition to your cat’s diet, but give them sparingly to prevent diarrhea from occurring. Before giving this vegetable to your cat, speak with your veterinarian to find out if Brussels sprouts are safe for her, especially if she has existing health conditions.
