Can Cats Drink Almond Milk?

Can Cats Drink Almond Milk?

The short answer: Yes, but only occasionally and in small amounts.

The long answer: Kittens and cats should not be given cow’s milk because it contains lactose, which many feline pets have trouble digesting. Allowing them to drink cow’s milk may result in intestinal cramps and diarrhea

Almond milk, on the other hand, is made by soaking and grinding almonds in water, and obtaining its milky white liquid. This lactose-free drink is high in omega-3 fatty acids and low saturated fat, making it good for cats with cardiovascular problems.

How to give almond milk to your cat: Consult with your veterinarian before letting your cat try almond milk. Start small with a spoonful, and see how her body reacts to it within 24 hours. You can serve it either warm, chilled, or even frozen into small cubes. You can also use almond milk to hide the medicine your cat needs to take.

Remember to limit the amount of almond milk you give to your cat. Since the milk contains sugar, drinking it regularly may cause your cat to develop obesity or dental issues. Also, take note that kittens and cats who have sensitive stomachs or are allergic to nuts may not be able to handle this type of milk.

In summary: Cats can occasionally drink almond milk as long as their stomachs can take the nutty and sweet-tasting liquid treat. Your kitty can reap its nutritional benefits such as protein, vitamin E, potassium, manganese, zinc, riboflavin, and selenium. Depending on your cat’s age, activity level, and health status, she may only be able to safely drink less than one cup of almond milk a day. Too much might cause gas, bloating, vomiting, or diarrhea.
