Can Dogs Eat Beets?

Can Dogs Eat Beets?

The short answer: Yes, but in moderation.

The long answer: Usually red in colour, the beet is a root vegetable that is a great source of fiber, folic acid, potassium, and vitamin C. Its high fiber content can improve your dog’s colon health and help him pass stool easily. Feeding your dog beets can also result in a stronger immune system as well as healthier skin and coat.

Fresh beets are delicious treats you can occasionally serve your dog. Do not give him canned or pickled beets because they are usually loaded with salt and preservatives, which can cause digestive problems.

How to feed beets to your dog: Wash the root vegetable properly. Remove the stems, leaves, and any spoiled parts before cooking it. You can boil or steam beets, then mash them before serving the dish to your dog.

Here are three ideas for beet treats your dog will love:

  1. Your pooch will love these red velvet pupcakes made out of beet.
  2. Shred the beet and add it as a topping over your dog’s regular meal.
  3. Try baking a batch of raw vegan apple beet almond butter dog treats

In summary: Cheap and readily available in the market, beets are a welcome addition to your dog’s diet. When eaten in moderation, this fresh vegetable packed with fiber, vitamins, and minerals can benefit his overall wellness. Aside from beets, discover which other vegetables dogs can safely eat in our “can dogs eat” category.
