Can Cats Eat Greek Yogurt?

Can Cats Eat Greek Yogurt?

Yes, cats can occasionally eat plain, unflavoured Greek yogurt.

Yogurt is a dairy product that’s produced by fermenting milk with a live culture. Greek yogurt, in particular, is also known as strained yogurt, sack yogurt, yogurt cheese, and kerned yogurt. The liquid whey has been removed through the straining process, giving it a thicker consistency than other types. Compared to other varieties, Greek yogurt is said to have higher protein content and contains less sugar. It is a great source of calcium, iodine, potassium, and vitamin B12.

Greek yogurt often comes from fat-free or low-fat cow’s milk, which adult cats cannot drink. They do not have the enzyme to break down the lactose found in milk. Nevertheless, your cat can consume a small amount of plain, unflavoured Greek yogurt occasionally since the bacteria has broken down the lactose found in it. There are even some variants that are completely lactose-free.

How to feed Greek yogurt to your cat: Speak with your veterinarian and get the go signal before giving your feline pet anything new. Let her have a lick of plain and unflavoured Greek yogurt. Keep an eye on her over the next 24 hours. If she displays any symptoms of digestive upset, do not give it to her again.

Your cat may be lactose intolerant if she manifests any of these signs: lethargy, abdominal pain and discomfort, increased scratching, appetite loss, vomiting, and diarrhea.

In summary: Your cat may reap the benefits of eating plain, unsweetened, and unflavoured Greek yogurt. This dairy treat may assist in easing constipation, gas, and stomach cramps. Plus, it may help strengthen her bones, teeth, and muscles. Aside from Greek yogurt, find out which vegetables, fruits, legumes, and beans you can safely feed your cat.
